about

Tsulan Ono attended CSULA and the Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute.  She is one of the first graduates of the Strasberg Film School.  She has worked behind the scenes as a production assistant, camera assistant, and second-second AD.  While on set at a remote desert location, as a camera assistant, she was selected by the director to become a cast member.  Shortly thereafter, through a fluke of events she was presented with an opportunity to become an observer at The Actors Studio-West where she faithfully attended sessions during the day, while simultaneously assisting backstage in the evenings on a play called Fences, directed by Jeffrey Hayden.  Ms. Ono later served as an assistant to director Barry Primus for the play Dreamer Examines His Pillow.  Tsulan is proud not only to be a lifetime member of the prestigious Actors Studio, but also to serve as an assistant coordinator at the Playwright/Director Unit under the leadership of Lyle Kessler and Mark Rydell.  Through the Actors Studio, Tsulan has studied with co-artistic directors Mark Rydell (Oscar nominee for best director) and Martin Landau (Oscar winner for Best Actor); as well as Joanne Linville, Penny Allen, Allan Miller, James DiStefano, and Lou Antonio.

Born in Los Angeles to a traditional first generation Japanese mother and a pioneer-American father.  Tsulan’s heritage includes a mixture of East/West and Native American Blackhawk Indian, French and English.  Tsulan comes from a family that ran a music rehearsal studio and spent most of her time there listening to countless-of-timeless recording artists.  She has a background in classical ballet and jazz.  She has acted in theater, film and television projects.
